Training has begun in earnest for our Tumaren team of rangers who will compete in the Wildlife Rangers Challenge at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Rashid, Hassan, Lenomboyo, and Kanunga will represent our conservation area in this grueling 21km race, each carrying 22kg of weight.
We are undoubtedly the underdogs, being smaller than the other conservancies and having placed 8th last year. However, spirits are high, and a certain determination can be witnessed as the team trains. Everyone loves a good underdog story, and we are ready to write ours.
Over 100 teams from all over Africa are competing in the WRC. This event not only raises money for the working lives of rangers but also highlights the critical role they play in wildlife conservation. Contributions are being matched by the Sheinberg Relief Fund, meaning that for every $100 we raise, an additional $125 will be contributed. This presents an enormous opportunity to support the people safeguarding Africa’s biodiversity and its most iconic wildlife and wild places.
The Wildlife Rangers Challenge also serves as a significant platform for uniting rangers and their supporters, fostering community, and driving essential funding for wildlife protection initiatives across Africa.
We hope you can contribute towards our team and the great work they do on behalf of Laikipia’s, Kenya’s, and the world’s wildlife.
